Founded in 1858, Keio will become the first modern Japanese university to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2008.
Over the last century and a half, Keio University has built up a track record as a leader for Japan and Asia. Now, it is set to become a leader with influence and authority in the international community, across all fields including education, research, medicine, social contribution, international collaboration and business management.
Based on its development of wide-ranging human resources and its accumulation of high-level academic learning over 150 years, Keio University will nurture leaders equipped with two vital attributes: a spirit of independence, whereby to think and act by themselves wherever they are in the world; and a spirit of collaboration, whereby to live in cooperation with others.
Keio University’s 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project is designed to bring these two objectives to fruition. Through reforms across the whole spectrum of education, research, medicine, social contribution, international collaboration, and facilities, this is a major project to transform Keio into a university that will “design the future” and nurture leaders who will “design the future.”
As well as thanking you all most sincerely for your guidance and assistance to date, we earnestly seek your understanding and acceptance of the purpose behind this Keio University 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project, and look forward to your kind cooperation and support.
