Keio University has already started work on "designing the 21st century."

The future mission of Keio University will be to provide education that inspires passion, strive to create and accumulate new intellectual value, and explore new entrepreneurial potential, thereby leading the society of the 21st century.

As a statement aimed at fulfilling this mission, Keio announced the “Keio University Grand Design for the 21st Century” in September 2001. It incorporates six leadership initiatives (leadership in education, leadership in research, leadership in new enterprise, leadership in knowledge and skills integration, leadership in infrastructure for a knowledge society, and leadership in campus reform) that will enable Keio to achieve “education that inspires passion,” “creation of intellectual value,” and “exploration of new entrepreneurial potential” to global standards.

As a concrete measure for materializing this grand design, Keio announced its “Integrated Reform Plan 2002-2006” in July 2002. The plan consists of an Integrated Leadership Plan for fulfilling the six leadership initiatives, and a Management Reform Plan aimed at rational and independent management. Together, these two plans include about 40 tasks to be fulfilled, and many of them are already in progress.

All elements of the Integrated Reform Plan 2002-2006 reflect the firm belief that the ability to live independently and the ability to live in collaboration with others will be vitally important in the coming age. Based on the performance of the Integrated Reform Plan 2002-2006, Keio University will implement its 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project over the next ten years, as an attempt to "design the future" through the ability to live independently and collaboratively.

How Keio will "design the future"

The Keio University 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project consists of projects designed to create a new starting point for entrepreneurship, as well as projects designed to create a new image through Keio’s own efforts for structural reform of education, research and medical care. This program of projects will reveal the shape of the future to the world.
