Keio University is establishing a comprehensive education program that inherits the vision passed down from Yukichi Fukuzawa. It is also building new facilities for education and research that include the “Design the Future Building” (provisional name).
- Development of human resources that can envision the future while maintaining focus on fundamentals.
- Necessity to create new academic fields that reach beyond the frameworks of existing faculties.
- Pioneering the future at the Mita Campus, where the traditions of Keio University are nurtured.

- Construction of a Design the Future Building (provisional name) as a facility with both museum and research functions that will record “design the future” initiatives.
- In combination with the abovementioned activity, construction of a new education and research wing for the South School Building to further enhance the learning environment for Keio students.
- Establishment of a comprehensive education program that pulls together the strengths of the four undergraduate faculties at the Mita Campus (Letters, Economics, Law, and Business and Commerce).
- Establishment of the Shin Fukuzawa Juku (provisional name) that will combine two important aspects: It will be a base that functions as a stage for research on cutting-edge themes, as a think tank for policy recommendations, and as a venue for international symposia and lectures. It will also be a center for practical application of education for all and development of international leaders possessing a spirit of“independence and self-respect.”
- Involvement of Keio community members (including alumni), contributing to the “half-learning, half-teaching” environment for which Keio is known.


The Independence Wing, which emphasizes teaching and learning with its new classrooms and lecture rooms, was completed in March 2009.
- Venues are needed for practical application of education that emphasizes emotion and experience in order to develop sensitivity and social skills.
- Also needed are places for students to generate campus activities freely and on their own initiative so that they may discover their own potential.
- Facilities that correspond to reform of current learning environments and various lesson formats are required.
- Creation of an educational environment for students that corresponds to new liberal arts and secondary education programs.
- Establishment of a new educational facility that is suitable as a base for the Hiyoshi Campus’ forward-looking Grand Design.
- Creation of a highly diverse space that stimulates communication.

The Collaboration Complex, which is designed to increase collaboration between the university and the community, was completed in August 2008.
- Need for opportunities and places to support efforts to tackle various regional and social issues, including the declining birthrate and aging society, simultaneous work and childrearing, and health enhancement.
- Growing need for adult education to address changes in the seniority system, second careers for baby boomers, etc.
- For students, universities are places where they can discover their own potential through various experiences. However, many students graduate without receiving such opportunities.
- Place where students and a wide range of people from various generations can gather to interact and engage in innovative collaboration.
- Place for tackling issues and themes that affect the community and region.
- Promotion of social experience-based education for students through the abovementioned activities.

- Training (accommodation) facilities to be used for seminars and other events held by the new graduate schools.

- Graduate School of System Design and Management, Graduate School of Media Design, Keio Business School.
2nd floor
- High-ceilinged multipurpose hall capable of hosting exhibits, commemorative ceremonies, celebratory banquets, etc.
- Lecture hall that can be converted into a music hall with the latest facilities (capacity of approximately 500).
1st floor
- Open physical-education facility that can be used by members of the general public; holding of exercise programs that are linked to research achievements will be studied.
- Clinic center to provide health management and preventive medicine to students, faculty members, and community residents.
- Childcare facilities to support working people and students with children.
- Exhibit hall to communicate information on the Hiyoshi Campus and Keio University.
